Abstract
This study sets up a basis for the enhancement and utilisation of time and spaces in the modern automated container terminals. It argues that a considerable saving in the processing and re-shuffling time of containers can be achieved by the enhancement of the stacking blocks. It has been discussed that the minimisation of the cycle times can be achieved by the minimisation of the number of unwanted container moves and re-handles. The enhancement of the stacking blocks will be required for operators who are aiming to establish automation technologies in their container terminals.
